Ojibways of Onegaming : ウィキペディア英語版 | Ojibways of Onegaming
Ojibways of Onegaming or Onegaming First Nation is an Anishinaabe community in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. The present day reserve is on a portage between Lake of the Woods and Crow Lake, intersected by Highway 71. The traditional name for this settlement is Kakagewaatisoonigaming, or Raven's Nest Portage. This community was formerly known as "Sabaskong", a corruption of the Ojibway name "Shebiiskaang" which refers to the "old reserve" located near Turtle Narrows on Lake of the Woods. This community is still known colloquially as "Sab". Onegaming is home to a Niimii'idiwigamig (or Roundhouse), built near the site of a traditional roundhouse which was destroyed by Ontario hydro's construction of transmission lines. This roundhouse is built according to the traditional teachings of the Anishinaabe, yet uses modern construction methods. Among its many features are a pipestone altar in the west, a water-heated floor and a steel frame that is predicted to last for 500 years.
